Kelly Cormier Seeks School Committee Seat

Candidate states that in advocacy, conversation matters.

Stating that “conversation matters to drive advocacy,” Kelly Cormier announced her candidacy for the North Andover School Committee. “I am running for School Committee because conversation - meaningful conversation - matters,” said Cormier. “The School Committee needs to engage in productive debate to gain clarity to make the hard decisions,” noted Cormier as she detailed the most important focus items for the School Committee in the coming years. They include defining clear and measurable goals for the Superintendent, driving advocacy for the school community that is trackable, as well as gaining the confidence of other town officials and boards. Cormier feels that all of these will be driven by conversation that matters.

Kelly has spent 6+ years of her 30-year management consulting career in the education space. Her time as the Director of Consulting at both Blackboard and Educate Online, was spent working with K-12 school systems implementing reading and math remediation programs as well as working with higher education systems to prepare for accreditation while enabling online class experiences and student systems integrations. Kelly is currently a Vice President, Team Lead for an enterprise-wide, best in class data analytics platform at Fidelity Investments.

Kelly’s own primary and secondary education spanned two continents and five states. As the child of a career Army officer and Special Needs Family Member Advocate, Kelly learned to adapt and advocate for others and herself where family involvement and change were the only constant. “I saw my parent’s active voice and advocacy for both my brother and me, as well as the students they coached and Boy and Girl Scouts they led over the years. This was a foundational force and common thread in the quality education I received,” stated the first-time candidate for office.

Kelly has been an active volunteer in North Andover. Whether spending her time as an assistant coach or team parent of Cheerleading, Basketball, Tee-ball, Lacrosse or as class parent and summer class-wide playdate organizer, Kelly has sought to make a positive impact on the children of North Andover. Kelly also served as a member of the North Andover Planning Board, was the inaugural Chairperson of the North Andover Master Plan Implementation Committee, volunteer on the Drummond Playground Committee, and on the North Andover Historical Society Board of Directors. Kelly is not a stranger to public service, having earned the Volunteer of the Year Award while still in high school aiding service men and women and their families at Army Community Service, Fort Dix, New Jersey.

Kelly lives on Andover Street with her husband Shawn. They chose North Andover based on her husband’s family ties to the area as well as the positive feel of the community and space for raising their family. Deepening ties to the community is important to the entire family as evident by the “Cormier Family Light Celebration” the family puts on each year. Shawn and Kelly have three children ranging in age from 8 to 16 years old. “Focusing on education and the community conversation necessary to build a solid foundation for my own and all children’s education is both a family and community priority,” said the proud parent.

Kelly holds a BS in Mathematics from Saint Bonaventure University and a High Technology MBA from Northeastern University. Kelly also has a Master’s Certificate of Project Management from George Washington University, and earned Project Management Professional (PMP) credentials from PMI. She is running for one of the two open seats on the North Andover School Committee. The election is on Tuesday, March 26th .
